A look back at the motorcycle history of Zschopau
|
1956 Model, MZ RE 125 Road Racer
125 cc, 16 hp, 80 kg, 155 kph.
Another leap forward in the construction of 2 stroke racing engines, by
making systematic use of vibration and flow processes. also the
opportunities offered by plate type rotary valve induction. |
|
1964 Model, MZ ETS 350-G Trials Machine
320 cc, 27 hp, 138 kg, 140 kph.
The MZ ETS cross-country motorcycles (available in a number of cc's),
were the technical basis of an unprecedented series of successes in trials
competitions during the 1960's. Including a string of victories in the
International Six Day Trials (ISDT), the world trials event. |
|
1965 Model, MZ KKM 350 Rotary Engine Motorcycle (prototype)
3x175 cc, 24 hp, 140 kg, 140 kph.
The "Wankel" engine came under close scrutiny at MZ as a
possible replacement for the traditional piston engine. The first MZ
fitted with the Wankel was also the first rotary engined powered
motorcycle. After analysing the test results, it was decided that there
was no place for this type of engine in large volume motorcycle
production. |
