A look back at the motorcycle history of Zschopau
|
DKW E200 1925 - 1929
200 cc, 4 hp, 75 kg, 65 kph.
An important milestone in the Zschopau factory's production. The E200
had an ingeniously simple 2 speed gearbox, with the crankshaft serving as
the transmission shaft. Resulting in a lightweight, compact and
inexpensive unit. It retained the familiar petroil lubrication, fan
cooling and flywheel magneto ignition. |
|
1929 DKW ORe 250 Road Racer
250 cc, 17 hp, 85 kg, 130 kph.
Motorcycle racing has always been closely connected with the Zschopau
factory, this is one of the first purpose built race bikes. Featuring
water-cooling and a crude supercharger. |
|
1930 Model DKW Schüttoff
500 cc, 14 hp, 150 kg, 110 kph.
There was a brief period of 4 stroke powered bikes. Modified DKW frames
fitted with engines from the Chemnitz based Schüttoff motorcycle factory.
It was never the intention to replace the 2 stroke engine, but to use up
the remaining engine stocks of the then defunct Schüttoff factory. |
