After an engine rebuild or if the oil tank has been allowed to run dry or the oil lines have been disconnected for any reason it is advisable to bleed the pump. With oil in the oil tank (at least enough to show in the sight glass or on the dipstick) open the bleed screw (1) three to four turns and wait until oil comes through free of air bubbles. To assist the oil through, it helps to blow down the oil tank vent tube, this pressurises the tank and forces the oil down to the pump, and the air in the supply tube out. . . To check adjustment, the two marks (3) must be aligned, if they do not:-
The factory manual recommends filling the tank with about 2 litres of 50:1 fuel oil mix to road test the operation of the pump. As the delivery pipes are clear you will be able to satisfy yourself that oil is being delivered and the system isn't air locked. Then you can revert to straight petrol in the fuel tank. Incidentally, I always use good quality fully synthetic 2 stroke oil (cheaper if you buy it 5+ litres at a time), less smoke, longer spark plug life, exhausts less prone to clogging, better fuel economy and it works out a lot cheaper than engine rebuilds! |
